The Brazilian Pineapple
- a very special fruit
Very sweet and aromatic, juicy and tasty, this is
the Brazilian pineapple.
In Brazil, many species are cultivated, including
the one known as the yellow pineapple (smooth cayenne)
with cylinder shaped fruits, orange skin, pale yellow
flesh with high sugar levels, but also with high sourness.
But the one that stands out in Brazil is the Pérola
variety, strong scented, very sweet with a refreshing
juicy flesh. The fruits have a conic shape, greenish
skin even when ripe, the flesh is pearl white and
it's not very sour.
- The pineapple offers
a great diversity of minerals and vitamins, in a
balanced way.
- Among the minerals, the
pineapple stands out as a good source of potassium.
- A 150 grams slice provides
more than 7% of the recommended internationally
as daily ingestion of vitamins B1, B2 and B9 and
around 2/3 of the vitamins that we need.
- Presents a considerable
level of dietetic fibers around 1.4%.
How to choose the pineapple:
- To choose the Brazilian
pineapple, you can not consider just its color,
that varies a lot depending on the quality. The
best and simpler way is to check the leaves in its
tuft: if the pineapple is good they get loose easily.
- It is also possible
to feel if it is ripe by pressing it with the fingers.
If it's too hard, it is still raw. When it is over
ripened it's got dark spots and soft parts next
to its base.
